Terms of Service
Last updated: 26 October 2026
These terms govern your use of the MotorScope website and the inspection services we provide. Please read them carefully. By booking an inspection or using our website, you agree to these terms.
In these terms, “MotorScope”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean MotorScope (ABN 93 243 145 227). “You” means the person who books or pays for an inspection. “Inspector” means the qualified person who carries out the inspection. “Report” means the inspection report we provide.
1. Our service
MotorScope arranges independent pre-purchase vehicle inspections and provides a written report on the condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection. We offer mobile inspections (where an inspector travels to the vehicle) and workshop inspections (where the vehicle is brought to a partner workshop). We are independent: we do not buy or sell the vehicles we inspect and we are not acting for the seller.
2. Bookings and scheduling
When you submit a booking, you are making a request that we accept when we confirm it. You must provide accurate information about the vehicle, its location and the seller. We will make reasonable efforts to schedule the inspection within the indicated turnaround time, but times are estimates and depend on inspector availability and seller cooperation.
3. Fees, GST and payment
The fees for each inspection package are shown on our website at the time of booking and are in Australian dollars and inclusive of GST unless stated otherwise. Payment is made through our third-party payment provider. Optional add-ons (such as a vehicle-history check) may incur additional fees, which will be shown before you pay.
4. Access to the vehicle
You are responsible for ensuring the inspector can access the vehicle at the agreed time and location, including arranging the seller’s cooperation, keys, and (for a road test, where offered) a vehicle that is registered, insured and in a drivable condition. If access cannot be arranged, or the vehicle or details differ materially from your booking, we may need to reschedule and additional fees may apply.
5. Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds
You may cancel or reschedule by contacting us. If you cancel before we have dispatched an inspector or incurred costs, we will refund the fee in full. If an inspector has already travelled to the vehicle or we have incurred costs, a reasonable amount may be deducted to cover those costs. Nothing in this clause limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (see section 9).
6. Scope and limitations of the inspection
An inspection is a visual and operational assessment carried out without dismantling the vehicle and within a limited time. It reflects the condition observed at the time of inspection only. Unless expressly stated in your package, an inspection does not include:
- dismantling, removing components, or invasive or destructive testing;
- inspection of concealed, inaccessible or submerged areas;
- a road test where the vehicle is unregistered, uninsured or unsafe to drive, or where the seller does not permit it;
- assessment of matters that are not reasonably detectable by a competent visual and operational inspection;
- intermittent faults not present or reproducible at the time; or
- a valuation, a warranty, or a roadworthy/safety certificate.
7. The report
The Report is our inspector’s professional opinion to help you make a more informed decision. It is a guide only and is not a guarantee or warranty of the vehicle’s condition, safety, roadworthiness or fitness for any purpose, and is not a recommendation to buy or not to buy. You remain responsible for your purchasing decision. The Report is provided for your use and should not be relied on by any other person.
8. Optional vehicle-history data
If you select a vehicle-history or register add-on (for example finance owing, written-off or stolen status, or market valuation), that information is sourced from third-party and government data providers. We present it in good faith but do not control and cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of third-party data.
9. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled to cancel your service contract with us and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have problems with the service rectified in a reasonable time and, if this is not done, to cancel your contract and obtain a refund for the unused portion of the service.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, and subject to section 9, our liability for any failure to comply with a consumer guarantee (other than a guarantee as to title) is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, special or consequential loss, and our total liability arising out of or in connection with an inspection is limited to the fees you paid for that inspection. We are not liable for the acts or omissions of the seller, or for matters outside the agreed scope of the inspection.
11. Your responsibilities and indemnity
You warrant that the information you provide is accurate and that you are authorised to share the seller’s details and arrange access to the vehicle. To the extent permitted by law, you indemnify us against claims, losses and costs arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of a Report, except to the extent caused by our negligence or breach.
12. Intellectual property
All content on our website and in our Reports, including text, graphics, logos and the MotorScope name and branding, is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by law. We grant you a limited licence to use your Report for your own purposes. You must not copy, resell or commercially exploit our content without our permission.
13. Privacy
We handle your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one published on our website when you book. The current version is always available on our website.
15. General
These terms are the entire agreement between us about the inspection. If any provision is unenforceable, it is severed and the rest continues to apply. A failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights without our consent; we may assign ours. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia and apply nationally. Where you deal with us as a consumer, the laws of the State or Territory in which you reside also apply. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.
